Martin’s Interview, Journeys of Growth & Belonging: Working with Strangers

March 1, 2022 by Martin |

What if working with strangers and finding a sense of belonging within something bigger than us is the key to a healthier, happier, and more sustainable world? I was recently invited to be a storyteller for the Journeys of Growth and Belonging, co-hosted by the team at Designed Learning. Here is some more information about the talk.

Ever since that fateful March in 2020, our relationships with people and the way that we collaborate has been thrown into a seemingly never-ending limbo. As a species, we have been forced to grapple with ideological, social, and even natural disconnects that impact not only the way we are together but also the way we are with ourselves. But hope is not lost. Luckily there are people who hold space in this world to help us navigate this unfamiliar terrain. One of those people is Martin Itzkow.

During our kickoff session of Journeys of Growth and Belonging, Martin will share with us four journeys he has experienced with himself, his work, and others around him. In a way, Martin’s story follows the path of the concentric circles of care, from ruminating on privilege and his role in community to studying neurobiology and the more scientific side of connection and belonging, he has applied principles of inviting people in, discussing gifts, and holding space that put psychological safety first. Moving the Six Conversations into action is a red thread throughout his work.

In today’s often overwhelmingly divisive and complicated times, Martin now focuses on ‘working with strangers’ begging the question – how can we come out of COVID in connection, helping each other overcome our collective trauma?
