The non-profit or community sector & its future in Canada.
This is a Critical Call to Action for those of us who were actively involved in the Voluntary Sector Initiative in 2001 when the government of Canada signed a national ACCORD with our sector, the third pillar of our society including these areas of shared responsibility: Shared Values, Democracy, Active Citizenship, Equality, Diversity, Inclusion, Social Justice, Principles of Independence, Interdependence, Mutual Dialogue, Co-operation and Collaboration, Accounting to Canadians, & most important Commitments to Action Shared.
There were numerous codes mutually agreed to related to shared policy, dialogue, IT, funding, human resources, etc.
Then I was the founding chair of the Canadian Federation of Voluntary Sector Networks & we (many) were representatives of provincial & territorial sector networks actively engaged with many other people in the VSI. We became close friends & felt the common bonds of strengthening our communities as we strengthened our sector. The important aspect was that this did not rely on a few lead sector organizations.
Perhaps this is the time to recreate this process, & enter into a new accord to strengthen the sector which is now challenged more than ever. What do you think? Talk to me….
