After considering my last few postings and the ideas that I expressed about toxic leaders and colluding followers, there may be a more useful and practical framework to consider. As an organizational and certified SQ21 spiritual intelligence coach, I am now focusing more of my attention on the role of the “toxic handler”, who could be the leader or other positions within our organizations. Now it is the time to discuss these handlers and understand how organizations can be more tactical, and strategic. Yes, they need to know how and where these handlers exist and how they can be more successful. Also, they need to know how to adapt their organizational culture to ensure that the man-made systems, policies, and structures are compassionate and kind. Soon, I will be facilitating a leader’s conversation about this topic, and provide approaches & tools to assist this “toxic handler” person and process to be supported and or a new process to take root in organizations. We will need to identify and address these toxic behaviours which create: pain, distress and yes suffering. As well, we will need to discuss a focus on healing (admitting trauma), which courageous leaders need to accept and be willing to address within their current organizational culture.
